GIS Administrator
Job
 Summary
 The GIS System Administrator, under general supervision, is
 responsible for the administration and development of the GIS application and
 geodatabases, and for providing technical support to company’s employees
 regarding processes and procedures related to system utilization and
 performance.

 Duties

 Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, connection,
 printer and software issues

 Update network applications as required

 Maintain daily tape backup and off-site tape
 storage

 Troubleshoot and resolve all problems
 encountered with hardware and software. Escalate requests to the appropriate
 party, as needed. Replace or repair defective parts and equipment.
 ·        
 Provide support to the other teams

 Assist in the development of training
 coursework and materials

 Maintain and expand knowledge base in area of
 expertise

 Increase efficiencies, technical ability and
 interpersonal skills
 
 Perform routine server monitoring and
 performance benchmarking

 Monitor and remove virus, spyware, and other
 non-authorized software

 Complete special projects as requested

 Provides on-going administration of the GIS
 application and geodatabases as well as other related technologies,
 applications, and systems

 Install, Develop, document, and support Esri
 software such as ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE (Oracle, SQL Server) and ArcGIS
 Desktop
   
 Plan and test ArcGIS software upgrades and
 patches

 Handle LAN/WAN related issues
 Qualifications
 Required

 Bachelor’s
 degree in Computer Technology /Science, Information Management, Information
 Systems, Business, GIS, or other related field. Any combination of education,
 training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and
 abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
      
 1-2
 years of experience of administering and maintaining Servers (Windows, Linux)
    
 Knowledge
 of Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres,

 Experience
 in Windows and Red Hat Linux Operating Systems

 Must
 maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective interactions and
 communications with co-workers, customers and management
 Advantages

 GIS Administration experience

 experience
 of administering and maintaining ArcGIS Servers, Esri ArcGIS Desktop and
 background in utilizing geoprocessing tools, managing web services

Qualifications • Bachelor Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science, Sales

• good knowledge and understanding of the applications of GIS for different industries
• ability to work independently and make sound judgments based on available resources
• skill in planning, organizing and managing small to large scale GIS projects
• ability to create documents i.e., case studies; charts; workflow designs; diagrams; directions; graphs; letters; manuals; maps; plans; records; reports and surveys
• have excellent verbal communication skills in order to work directly with a variety of customers to ascertain needs and produce quality products under shifting deadlines
